• Cambridge Pick-Up Street Hockey Team Profile
    Cambridge Pick-Up Street Hockey
    Cambridge, MA
We play pick-up street hockey every Sunday morning at Corporal Burns Park, located at the corner of Flagg St and Memorial Drive in Cambridge. The park has an outdoor public street hockey rink.

This is a free informal pick-up game, open to the public. We play at the recreational level, and have players of all skill levels. No experience necessary.

There are no set teams. Each week we divide the people who show up into two teams. We play from 9:30am until about noon, but people come and go as suits them. If you show up and we're already playing, put your stick at the end of one of the queues on either side of the gate. The stick closest to the gate is the next person to go in when someone comes off.

An invite goes out every Tuesday, and a reminder is sent on Friday. Game on or off calls are sent out on Saturday morning based on weather forecast and the number of yes RSVPs. If there are only 8 or 9 yes RSVPs, please feel free to post your opinions in the event chatter if you'd be cool with playing with no goalies, and using the velcro shooter tutors or something else in net instead. If more than 18 people sign up to play a particular week and you're only looking to play for an hour or so, then please consider coming around 10:45am.

We play 4 on 4, in sneakers, using a ball. There's free on-street parking for all, even non-residents, on Sundays. Please bring a stick, your own water, and an extra neon/yellow shirt for teams. There is a water fountain that Cambridge turns on in the summer.

We play through the winter, as snow and ice permit.

CPUSH played its first game in October 2011. Its hearty members have played nearly every weekend since then. Reports have it that the Post Office has scouted our games to fill its letter carrier job openings in the Fairbanks, Alaska office.
CPUSH started when a majority of its predecessor group, Cambridge Street Hockey League (CSHL), was drafted by the NHL. CSHL was another Sportsvite group run by Eric. CSHL ran from June 2006 until August 2011. When Eric retired and CSHL folded, the surviving members formed CPUSH in October 2011.

We have held Winter Classic and Summer Classic events in the past. These events have included skills competitions, round-robin tournaments, team pictures, team shirts, and food. The 1st CPUSH Winter Classic was held on January 1, 2012. The 1st CPUSH Summer Classic was held in July 2013. Any member is welcome to organize a Classic event.

Please see any of the co-captains if you have any questions: Ted, Tom, Donny, Mark, Scott, or Sean.

Team Rules
1. SAFETY FIRST. At the end of the day, let's not have any injuries. Everybody needs to go to work on Monday. Keep the blade of your stick at or below your waist at all times. Even with that rule, please be conscious that if you are tall, carrying the stick at your hip could put the tip of your blade near another player's face. Be careful with keeping your stick down on the wind up and follow through on slap shots, and consider others' safety when taking slap shots. If there's a player between you and the goalie, your slap shot might hurt that player. If you think a play might be a bit aggressive, please don't do it. No hacking.
2. BE RESPECTFUL. We're all here to have fun. It's fine to be competitive, but it's never ok to be mean to people. We're all on the same team. Be nice to each other.

  • Cambridge Street Hockey League Team Profile
    Cambridge Street Hockey League
    Cambridge, MA
The Cambridge Street Hockey League is currently accepting players of all levels of ability and experience. Whether you've been playing since you were a kid or whether you've never played before is unimportant. The aim is to keep the level of play competitive but friendly. So no checking is allowed. To play, you'll need a stick and sneakers, but basic gloves, shin guards, and eye protection are recommended. CSHL is co-ed. You must be age 21 or over to participate. The games are held at a rink in Cambridge. The games are pick-up. This means you just respond to the invites, show up at the rink, and we divide up into two teams and play.
